Xiamen University Science and Art Center
The center is named “Hanming Building” in permanent recognition of the philanthropic act of the Hanming Education Science Foundation in supporting education. In April 2006, during the 85th anniversary celebration of Xiamen University, Xiao Enming, the founder of the foundation and an 86th graduate of the university’s International Trade Department, learned at an alumni event that the university planned to build a Science and Art Center. He decided to make a generous donation of 30 million RMB to support the construction of the center. He hoped this gesture would allow him to give back to his alma mater, provide a platform for showcasing its scientific and artistic achievements, and also encourage more Xiamen University alumni to carry forward the spirit of Tan Kah Kee, uphold the university motto of “Pursue Excellence, Strive for Perfection,” and make greater contributions to the country, society, and the university.
