Yongyuan Building on Gulangyu Island

The "Yongyuan Building" at No. 70 Quanzhou Road was once the former residence of Lu Jiaxi. This three-story Western-style building, named "Yongyuan Building," which means "achieving far-reaching goals through tranquility," was the home of the renowned Chinese scientist and President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Lu Jiaxi. He lived in the Yongyuan Building on Gulangyu Island until 1946, when he moved into the faculty dormitory at Xiamen University. Perhaps inspired by the tranquil spirit of Gulangyu that embodies "achieving far-reaching goals through tranquility," he went on to achieve remarkable success in his scientific research career.
