Located in Xiamen, a national central city known as "a high-quality city for innovation and entrepreneurship, and a high颜值 ecological garden city," Xiamen University of Technology is a public undergraduate university under the jurisdiction of Fujian Province. It operates under a management system jointly established by the provincial and municipal governments, with the city taking the lead. The university adheres to the educational philosophy of "student-centeredness and service to industry" and follows the motto of "Understanding Principles, Mastering Technology, and Advancing with the Times." It actively explores a tripartite service model integrating industry-academia collaboration, school-enterprise cooperation, and international partnerships, striving to build a high-level applied technology university that is "industry-oriented, open, and international."

The university was founded in 1981 (originally as the Lujiang Vocational University) and was upgraded to a bachelor's degree-granting institution and renamed "Xiamen University of Technology" in 2004 with the approval of the Ministry of Education. In 2011, it became one of the universities under the Ministry of Education's "Excellence in Engineering Education and Training Program" and one of the first pilot institutions for professional master's degree education in special national demand areas. In 2012, it successfully passed the Ministry of Education's undergraduate teaching qualification assessment. In 2013, it was approved as a "Key Construction University in Fujian Province." In 2016, it was selected as one of the 100 universities nationwide for the "13th Five-Year Plan" Applied Undergraduate Universities' Industry-Education Integration Development Project by the Ministry of Education and the National Development and Reform Commission. In 2017, it became one of the first 99 universities nationwide to deepen reforms in innovation and entrepreneurship education.

The university currently has three campuses—Jimei, Siming, and Xiamen Software Park—covering a total area of 1,927 mu (approximately 128.5 hectares) with a built-up area of over 500,000 square meters. The total value of teaching and research equipment amounts to 496 million yuan, and the library houses over 1.843 million volumes of printed books and 5.319 million e-books. The campus has been developed with a high starting point in terms of informatization and digitalization. The university comprises 19 schools and departments, including the School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering, School of Materials Science and Engineering, School of Electrical Engineering and Automation, School of Optoelectronics and Communication Engineering (Microelectronics College), School of Computer and Information Engineering, School of Civil Engineering and Architecture, School of Environmental Science and Engineering, School of Design, Art, and Fashion Engineering, School of Economics and Management (Strait Business College), School of Cultural Industries and Tourism, School of Digital Creativity and Communication, School of Applied Mathematics, School of Foreign Languages, School of Marxism, Department of Physical Education, School of Software Engineering, School of Continuing Education, School of International Education, and Graduate School.

The university currently offers two professional master's degree programs (in Vehicle Engineering and Electrical Engineering) and 56 undergraduate majors, covering disciplines such as science, engineering, economics, management, literature, art, and law. It has 20,508 full-time students (including 284 postgraduates and 113 international students). The faculty consists of 1,061 full-time teachers, among whom 44.3% hold senior professional titles, 90% have master's degrees or above, and 42.3% are "dual-qualified" teachers. Seven teachers enjoy special government allowances from the State Council, four have been selected for the Ministry of Education's New Century Excellent Talents Support Program, five are Minjiang Scholars Distinguished Professors, two are national-level distinguished teaching faculty, 12 are provincial-level distinguished teaching faculty, and there are two provincial-level teaching teams. The university's "Teachers' Development Center" has been recognized as a provincial-level demonstration center.
