Guxin Road “Gongbao Mansion” – Command Headquarters of the Minnan Army

Following the trail to No. 67 Guxin Road “Gongbao Mansion,” this was once the residence of General Lin Zhumi. He established the leadership organ of the Chinese Revolutionary Party in Fujian here, plotting against Yuan Shikai’s usurpation of the republic, opposing Chen Jiongming’s rebellion, forming the Minnan Army, and supporting Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s democratic revolution. He was appointed by Sun Yat-sen as Commander of the Minnan Army.

Gongbao Mansion truly lived through tumultuous times and holds deep historical significance. It is now a municipal-level cultural heritage site. Unlike the still-verdant trees in the courtyard, the outer walls of Lin Zhumi’s former residence have largely lost their first layer of plaster, exposing the red bricks beneath, with moss spreading everywhere. The second-floor flooring has become fertile ground for weeds.

This place was once an activity hub for the Chinese Revolutionary Party, but now it presents only a scene of dilapidation. The two European-style villas have lost their former grandeur — their walls are peeling, moldings broken, and the ground and baseboards are covered in creeping moss. They are now dangerous structures. Even a wooden sign nailed to a longan tree, once reading “Former Residence of Lin Zhumi,” has now gone missing.
