HuXi Chan Temple

HuXi Chan Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

The main gate of HuXi Chan Temple was built during the Ming Dynasty.

Upon entering, there are three stone steles. The bridge is called the Tiger-Crossing Bridge, and beneath it flows the HuXi Stream. There is a natural stone cave where a tiger resides, and beside the tiger sits a Tiger-Taming Arhat. According to the guide, on the night of the Mid-Autumn Festival each year, when the full moon rises, the tiger’s eyes glow, and nearby people can hear the tiger’s roar. Of course, this is just a legend — in reality, the glow is caused by the moonlight reflecting off the tiger’s eyes. This means that not only on the Mid-Autumn Festival, but every month when the moon is full, the tiger’s eyes appear to shine.

HuXi Chan Temple and White Deer Cave Temple exist back-to-back, surrounded by giant rocks formed naturally in dramatic shapes. “HuXi Moonlit Night” and “White Deer Exhaling Mist” are respectively among the Eight Great Scenic Spots of Xiamen, both major and minor.
