The Fujian Yuangu History Museum is located in the picturesque city of Gulangyu, nestled within Wuyuan Bay, and offers distant views of the renowned Xiamen Yacht Marina and Xiamen Wuyuan Bay Music Island. The Fujian Yuangu Museum is the first comprehensive private history museum approved by the Department of Culture of the People's Government of Fujian Province (the “Approval of the Establishment of the Fujian Yuangu History Museum” by the Fujian Provincial Department of Culture, Document No. Min Wen Wu [2011] 124), covering an area of 20,000 square meters with over 2,000 square meters of exhibition space, and housing a collection of more than 3,000 cultural relics.

Officially opened to the public in June 2011, the museum has eight exhibition rooms, all displaying items from Mr. Chen Bin’s personal collection. The exhibits mainly include precious cultural relics from the Hongshan Culture, Qijia Culture, Liangzhu Culture, as well as stone tools, pottery, and jade artifacts, along with cultural relics and folk items from the Warring States, Han, Tang, Ming, and Qing dynasties, all remarkable for their exquisite craftsmanship. The museum also showcases Red culture, featuring a 2.8-meter-tall statue of Mao Zedong during the Cultural Revolution—the tallest existing example of a lacquered resin sculpture from that period in the world. As the first museum in the province dedicated to collecting, exhibiting, and sharing cultural relics from the Hongshan series, the museum adheres to environmentally friendly principles, with much of its construction and furnishings made from materials sourced from old buildings in southern Fujian. The flooring is made from stone slabs taken from Jia Geng Road in Jimei, and one of the museum’s most important pieces of equipment—the display cases—are crafted from aged ship timber, solid and sturdy. Whether it’s the screens, doors, or floors, all exude an antique charm, highlighting the rich local characteristics of southern Fujian. With the origin and development of Chinese jade and the Chinese dragon as its narrative thread, the museum serves as a window into the Hongshan series culture through the preservation, exhibition, and introduction of historical artifacts. The Hongshan Culture represents the Liao River civilization and is one of the earliest forms of culture in China, reflecting the diversity of the origins of Chinese civilization. While Central Plains civilization emphasized agriculture over commerce, valued literature over martial prowess, and promoted moderation and diplomacy, northern culture prioritized herding over farming, favored horsemanship and martial valor, and was bold and rugged. The splendor and diversity of Chinese civilization, along with its inclusiveness, have ensured its continuous legacy.

Transportation Guide:

Bus: Take bus no. 132 (Train Station – Zhongzhai), get off at the terminal stop, then transfer to bus no. 132 and get off at Zhongzhai Village East Stop. Walk back about 20 meters to enter the park, or take bus no. 105 and get off at Zhongzhai Village East Stop.

By Car: Drive along Xianyue Road, turn left at the Wanda Plaza traffic light, cross the Riyue Bridge, then turn right at the first traffic light onto Wuyuan Bay Avenue. The museum is about 500 meters down the road. Enter the park from there.
