Taipingyan Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

“Taipingyan is located about two li east of the city, to the east of Wan Shi Rock and atop Middle Rock. It was once a place where the Zheng family studied.”

Taipingyan Temple is located at the southern foot of West Mountain in Wan Shi Botanical Garden, facing Gulangyu Island across the sea. When the wind rises and clouds gather, the temple appears as if hanging in the midst of misty clouds. Surrounded by lush trees and the sound of flowing springs, the temple boasts a serene landscape. Its upturned eaves and tiled roofs blend harmoniously with the dense forest and rugged rocks, adding to its tranquil and secluded charm. Several massive rocks on the side ridge, shaped like elephants bowing in worship, further enhance the temple’s mystical allure.

Taipingyan Temple is one of the Twenty Scenic Spots of Xiamen today. The Taiping Stone Smile was once one of the Eight Lesser Scenic Spots of Xiamen. The study site of Zheng Chenggong is a municipal second-class protected cultural relic. From Linchanyin, you can gaze at the scenery of Yundang Lake, and in Haiyun Cave, you can enjoy the sight of spring water cascading down. It is not only an ideal place for literati and scholars to compose poetry and admire the view, but also a great destination for tourists to escape the summer heat and relax. Moreover, it serves as a spiritual sanctuary for Buddhists to purify their minds and deepen their practice. The ancient temple is solemn and rustic, exuding the reverence of Buddhist culture and the spirituality of pristine ecology. Every corner of the temple—the garden, the pagoda, the hall, the Buddha statue, the mountain, and the water—shines as if imbued with life. The temple blends naturally with the surrounding scenery, attracting worshippers from all directions.
