Zengxi Reservoir

The Zengxi Tourist Area is located in the northeastern part of Xiamen City, enjoying a mild climate year-round, abundant vegetation, a serene environment, and rich tourism resources. The reservoir lies at the foot of Damiao Mountain, and the nearby Cunwei Village, fields, and green hills form a beautiful landscape painting. The reservoir derives its name from the Zengxi Stream. It was expanded in 1969, with a total storage capacity of 7.1 million cubic meters and a water area of over 2,000 acres. The surrounding areas of the reservoir are bases for growing fruits, vegetables, and grain. We were told that one area is specifically used for raising bullfrogs. Additionally, there are scenic spots such as Liujiao Well, Xiangshui Rock, Chenwo Pool, Beauty Offering Flowers, and Strong Man’s Warmth. The mountain and water views, along with the rural charm, are truly refreshing. It is the largest among several reservoirs in Xinxu Town and is also a specially protected water area within Xiamen’s surface water source for drinking water.

Highlights of the Reservoir

Zengxi Reservoir is planned to be developed into a tourist area that combines ecological agriculture and sports leisure. Leveraging its ecological agricultural environment, the project will focus on eco-agriculture and sports leisure vacation activities, complementing Xiamen’s coastal urban cultural tourism to meet the ecological tourism needs of city residents.

The eco-agricultural tourism area will offer activities such as fruit and vegetable picking, tasting local farm dishes, barbecues, camping, local opera performances, distinctive rural accommodations, and summer camps. The sports leisure tourism area plans to introduce activities like hiking around the reservoir, cycling trips, and fishing along the shore. It is an exciting new development in tourism for Xinxu.
