Xinxie Church

Xinxie Church is a cultural heritage site protected by Fujian Province.

Xinxie Church, also known as the "First Holy Church of China," is the earliest Christian church in China built for Chinese worshippers. In the 1930s, the church was rebuilt after its roof collapsed. The new church was designed by a renowned Shanghai architect and constructed by famous local craftsmen. It features a Romanesque architectural style, with six stone pillars standing in the porch, a red sloped roof topped with a hexagonal bell tower, inside which hangs a century-old bronze bell purchased from the United States. The red double-sloped roof is made of brick and stone, giving it an elegant and majestic appearance. On the wall of the front porch of the main hall are embedded stone plaques gifted by the National Christian Council of China, inscribed with “First Holy Church of China” and “The Dwelling Place of Jehovah.”
