The Xiamen Special Economic Zone Memorial Hall is a historical-themed memorial established to commemorate the 30th anniversary of China's reform and opening-up and the 27th anniversary of the establishment of the Xiamen Special Economic Zone. The memorial hall was converted from the former Huli District Government Building, where Deng Xiaoping once inscribed a dedication during his visit to the Xiamen Special Economic Zone. Now serving as a memorial, it exhibits over a thousand photos and hundreds of artifacts, bearing witness to a facet of China’s thirty-year reform and opening-up journey—especially the tremendous changes that have taken place in the Xiamen Special Economic Zone over the past twenty-seven years.

This is the birthplace of the special economic zone, the battleground where the earliest pioneers of the zone strove to build it from the ground up. In 1984, during his visit to Xiamen, Deng Xiaoping personally inscribed the inspiring words “Develop the Special Economic Zone faster and better” here. Standing here today stirs deep emotion and admiration.

The memorial hall covers a total area of 5,000 square meters. Marked by the early days of the SEZ and visits from national leaders such as Deng Xiaoping, Jiang Zemin, and Hu Jintao, it reflects the remarkable achievements of Xiamen’s reform and opening-up over the past thirty years, especially the accomplishments made in the twenty-seven years since the establishment of the Special Economic Zone.
