Kanqing Villa

Kanqing Villa is a national key cultural relics protection unit.

Xilin · Kanqing Villa is located at No. 72 and 73 Yongchun Road, and was the private villa of Huang Zhongxun, an overseas Chinese from Vietnam. In 1918, Huang Zhongxun built “Kanqing Villa” at the northern foot of Sunlight Rock. In 1927, he constructed Xilin Villa on the northwest side of Sunlight Rock. It now serves as the site of the Xiamen Zheng Chenggong Memorial Hall. Both Xilin and Kanqing Villas are European-style buildings.

Architectural Features

Xilin Villa: Facing south and backed by the north, it has a brick-concrete structure with three above-ground floors (partially four), and one semi-basement level. The building covers a construction area of 1,360 square meters. It features outer corridors on the east, west, and north sides, with a protruding semicircular open corridor added to the middle of the third floor on the north side, and narrow outer corridors added to the second and third floors on the south side. The wall base below the dado is built with granite strips, while the part above the dado is finished with exposed red brick. The roof of the third floor is flat, surrounded by a 1-meter-high parapet, with an observation pavilion set at the southeast corner. The fourth-floor roof is a hip-and-valley roof, covered with gray machine-made flat tiles. The column capitals feature a mix of Ionic and Corinthian orders. The entrance is defined by grand steps, a semicircular archway, and a semicircular open corridor that form the core passageway of the building.

Kanqing Villa: Facing west and backed by the east, it has a brick-wood structure with two floors and a construction area of 459 square meters. The layout is front-corridor style, with the central part of the front corridor protruding in a curved shape. The wall base below the dado is built with granite strips, while the part above the dado is brick with external plaster and whitewashed finish. The roof is a hip-and-valley roof, covered with gray machine-made flat tiles.

Protected Area

The protected area extends north to Yongchun Road, and 10 meters outward to the east, south, and west. Adjacent buildings are included within the protected area.

Key Protection Points: The main structure of the villas and their auxiliary facilities must be strictly protected. During any cultural relics maintenance, the principle of preserving the original condition without alteration must be strictly adhered to.

Construction Zone

The zone extends north to Quanzhou Road, and 30 meters outward to the east, south, and west from the protected area boundaries. Adjacent buildings are included within this zone.

Key Protection Points: Protect the viewing sightlines from Yongchun Road and the integrity of the fifth elevation landscape as seen from the top of Sunlight Rock. Uncoordinated buildings in the north area (within the Sunlight Rock scope) shall be systematically demolished. The surrounding environment of the buildings shall be preserved in accordance with the protection requirements for national key scenic areas.
