Xun’ku Martyrs' Cemetery
Xun’ku Martyrs' Cemetery is a cultural tourism attraction.
Xun’ku Martyrs' Cemetery is located at the back of Xun’ku Community, Dengteng Subdistrict, next to Songzi on the hillside. Built in the 1970s, the cemetery area measures 30 meters in length and 20 meters in width, covering an area of approximately 600 square meters. The ashes of martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the Anti-Japanese War, the Liberation War, and the August 23 Artillery Bombardment of Kinmen in 1958 were relocated here from the former Martyrs' Cemetery on the Dadeng Islands. The memorial monument faces west and is constructed from rectangular granite slabs, resting on a hexagonal base. At the top of the tomb is a five-pointed star. The base is 2.63 meters on each side and 1.3 meters high, while the monument itself stands 1.9 meters tall, 0.91 meters wide, and 0.15 meters thick. The front of the monument is inscribed with “Martyrs' Cemetery,” the left side bears the words “Eternal Glory to Revolutionary Martyrs,” and the right side is credited to “The PLA Garrison Troops on the Island & Dadeng Commune, Tong’an County, Fujian Province.” Surrounding the grave tablet is a granite-railed platform. To the north of the monument stands the 1997 Martyrs' Monument Inscription, which records the stories of the martyrs' sacrifices and lists their names. The inscription is 1.38 meters tall, 1.8 meters wide in total, and rests on a three-tiered step base.
In 1939, the Party organization sent Xie Zhenqun to the Shuanghu National School in Dadeng under the guise of teaching, where he connected with other school teachers on the island—Zheng Suwen (female), Zhang Qingxi, Xie Chaocong, Zheng Zhenhuan, Zheng Wenmou, Zheng Zongxi, and Xu Shuipan—totaling eight individuals. They joined the underground Anti-Japanese Support Association to carry out propaganda activities against the Japanese. By the end of 1941, the Jin-Nan-Tong Border District Party Committee was compromised, and many party members were arrested and killed.
In 1949, during the liberation of Dadeng, the local people of the old revolutionary base, who had become masters of their own destiny, carried forward the revolutionary tradition and actively participated in supporting the frontlines. They gathered supplies and organized boats to join the battle, and many civilian workers sacrificed their lives heroically during the fighting.
During the August 23 Artillery Bombardment of Kinmen in 1958, the land, sea, and air forces of the People’s Liberation Army fought in close coordination, supported and strongly assisted by the military and civilians along the Fujian coast. With a spirit of fearlessness and sacrifice, they defended the lives and property of the people with blood and lives. Here lie the valiant People’s Liberation Army officers and soldiers who died in the Battle of Kinmen, including Chen Guoxing, Min Yaofu, Wu Changde, Wang Yuxin, Wang Changhong, Liu Zhongcai, Sun Tianxiang, Dong Xingde, Han Zaifeng, Zhu Guangzhao, and Chen Fengzhou (including 40 unnamed heroes), as well as 51 revolutionary martyrs who supported the frontlines, such as civilian workers Zhang Shixing, Zhang Songmu, and Cai Shuihan.
