Former Residence of Lu Li

The former residence of Lu Li is a cultural tourism attraction.

The former residence of Lu Li is located in Daxiang East, Xucuo Village, Neicuo Town. Built in the late Qing Dynasty, it was renovated in 2005. The residence is an auxiliary building on the northern side of a two-section family mansion, facing southwest and situated to the northeast. It stands in front of an ancient house and behind a courtyard. It is 11.2 meters wide and 8 meters deep, with a floor area of 89.6 square meters and covers approximately 100 square meters. The ancient house is three bays wide (11.2 meters) and one bay deep, with a stone base wall, earthen brick walls, a rolled shed roof ridge, and a flush gable roof. The courtyard behind the house has been converted into a small wing room. This building is now dilapidated, with multiple parts collapsed. From 1914 to 1917, the renowned poet Lu Li spent his childhood here. At the age of three, he moved with his father to Saigon, Vietnam. In the early summer of 1932, Lu Li accompanied his critically ill father back to their hometown and once lived here again.

Xucuo Village: General Overview

Xucuo Village is located to the east of Neicuo Town, Xiang’an District — the eastern gateway of Xiamen. It currently has 511 households and a population of 1,917. The entire administrative village consists of four natural villages: Xucuo Village, Yanxi Village, Houfang Village, and Xushantou Village, divided into nine villager groups. Geographically, Xucuo Village is surrounded by mountains on all sides, featuring green hills and clear waters. It is popularly described as “a left phoenix and right sparrow, front lion and rear horse” (referring to the nearby Hongjian Mountain to the left, Que’niao Peak to the right, Lion Cub Mountain in front, and Tianma Mountain at the back). The murmuring streams in front of the village interweave with the Lianxi Stream.
