He'an Hall

He'an Hall is located 15 meters north of the southern loop road in Pengcuo Village, Xindian Town. It faces southwest and has an L-shaped floor plan. On the south side, there are three bays aligned in a row, each 7 meters wide, with a single depth of 4.7 meters. The building has a flat roof, and on the outer door of the easternmost bay, there is a cement plaque inscribed with the three characters “合安堂” (He'an Hall). To the east of the main hall, an L-shaped two-story building is connected, spanning two bays at 7.6 meters wide. The inner side of the first floor features an arched colonnade, while the second floor has square windows and a round arched doorway leading to the flat roof. The structure has a granite base, red brick walls, and wooden beams, representing a red-brick residence with Western architectural influences.

He'an Hall was originally a pharmacy opened by Comrade Peng Youqian, a veteran underground Communist Party member. It served as a secret activity site for the Chinese Communist underground during the Agrarian Revolutionary period. On March 18, 1930, Xiamen citizens held a memorial meeting for the “March 18th Tragedy” in Zhongshan Park in the city. Troops dispatched by the Nationalist Party from the Navy Headquarters surrounded the venue, and the meeting’s chairperson, Zhang Gengtao, along with Xiamen University student Chen Hanzong, were arrested and detained in Xiamen Siming Prison. Around that time, Chen Baisheng, Secretary of the Communist Youth League Fujian Provincial Committee, Liu Duansheng, Secretary of the Xiamen Municipal Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, Xie Yangtang, a Communist Party member working within the Nationalist Party in Xiamen, as well as party members, cadres, key revolutionary figures, and ordinary soldiers from the Red Army and guerrilla forces captured during armed struggles in Pinghe, Yongding, Shanghang, and Longyan, and later transferred to Xiamen, were also imprisoned here.

On May 25, the Chinese Communist Party Fujian Provincial Committee led a prison break operation, rescuing over 40 imprisoned revolutionaries from Xiamen Siming Prison. He'an Hall was one of the secret contact points for this operation and also served as a concealed transit point for the escapees on their way to the revolutionary base areas inland.
