Chen Wuchong’s Former Residence

Chen Wuchong’s Former Residence is located at No. 6, Xisanli, Shipan Natural Village, Shipan Village, Xinwei Town. Originally built in the ninth year of the Republic of China (1920), it faces south with its back to the north. The residence consists of two main blocks, front and rear, with a central courtyard and side rooms (ju tou) on both sides. It has a total width of 11.5 meters, a depth of 18.8 meters, covers an area of approximately 256 square meters, and has a floor space of 216.2 square meters. The front block is three bays wide, 5 meters deep, and features a full-length front eave corridor. The central part has a recessed porch entrance, while the lower hall has a three-bay gate. There are side chambers on both sides, with polished granite slab-style wall cladding at the front, upper sections constructed with red bricks and tiled facing. The roof tiles and water spouts are all ceramic, and the corner column bases are made of carved stone. The front wall is decorated with gilded pendant flower arches, while the spandrel panels feature vivid clay sculptures, and the body panels are adorned with Taiwanese-made tiles. The side panels have floral and bird relief carvings on both sides. The roof structure uses a post-and-lintel beam system, with a flush-gable roof and a triple-ridge roof. The rear block is three bays wide, 11.5 meters in total width, 10 meters deep with four columns, and 5.3 meters in internal height. The main hall features post-and-lintel beams on both sides, marble drum-shaped column bases, and distinct floral and bird reliefs. It also has a flush-gable roof and swallowtail ridges.

Shipan Village: The Shipan administrative village includes two natural villages—Shipan (Xinshi) and Xiaching—comprising 12 villager groups. The total land area is 8,454 mu, with 1,039 households and a population of 3,179. In 2008, the total economic income was 33.98 million yuan, with an average per capita income of 6,232 yuan. The local economy is primarily based on farming and aquaculture.
