Tomb of the Kang Ancestor

The Tomb of the Kang Ancestor is a cultural tourism attraction.

The Tomb of the Kang Ancestor is situated in the longan orchard of Hengshan, Houfang Village, Zhongzhai Community, Xindian Town. Originally constructed during the Ming Dynasty and refurbished in the 1990s, it is recognized as the ancestral tomb of the Kang family in Xindian Town. The tomb faces south, with the burial area measuring 22 meters in length and 12 meters in width, covering a total area of about 265 square meters. The semi-circular tomb mound is built from lime-soil, with a base of single-layer granite slabs. The burial mound itself is 4.6 meters long and 4.5 meters wide, surrounded by a lime-soil “wind”-shaped enclosure. In front of the mound stands a semi-circular tombstone with a radius of 1.1 meters and a thickness of 0.2 meters. The inscription on the stone reads “Tomb of the Kang Ancestor of Hengshan.” In front of the stele is an offering platform that is 1.7 meters long, 1 meter wide, and 0.65 meters high. At the center of the two-tiered terrace in front of the tomb lies a worship stone measuring 1.7 meters in length and 1 meter in width.

Within the longan orchard of Hengshan, there is a group of five Ming Dynasty-era ancestral tombs of the Kang family. The layout of the tomb area resembles five fingers arranged in sequence according to seniority, hence the name “Five-Finger Tombs.” It is said that descendants of the Hengshan Kang family who migrated to Tamsui Township, Tainan County, Taiwan, often return to their ancestral homeland during the Qingming Festival to seek their roots and pay homage.
