Xiaodeng Trumpet Fort

Xiaodeng Trumpet Fort is located beside the Huan Village Road on the eastern seaside of Xiaodeng Community, Dadeng Subdistrict. It is 3,600 meters from Kinmen. The fort is 10.8 meters high, 8.1 meters wide, and covers an area of 87.48 square meters. Inside the fort, there are 48 sets of military broadcast speakers, which were the largest in the world at that time. The entire system was cast in lead, and each speaker horn is 5 meters long and weighs up to 1 ton. These large speakers were transported here by landing craft and carried ashore one by one by 12 men. The effective sound transmission range of these horns could reach up to 12 kilometers. The broadcasts from this trumpet fort could cover the entire eastern region of Kinmen, making it a primary tool used by our army to conduct radio propaganda toward Kinmen Island at that time.

The broadcasts were a form of psychological warfare and political offensive accompanying the artillery battles, aimed at demoralizing the enemy. They were hailed as the “god of soldiers.” The broadcasts complemented the artillery strikes. If the artillery shells were tangible projectiles exploding on the enemy’s positions, then the broadcasts were intangible shells blossoming in the hearts of the Nationalist troops. Back then, many Nationalist soldiers and officers, including Lin Yifu, were moved by the broadcasts and resolutely returned—some by swimming, others by boat.

Dadeng Subdistrict: In 2005, Dadeng Town was abolished and Dadeng Subdistrict was established. The subdistrict office is located in Xitian.
