Site of the Gulangyu Municipal Council

The Site of the Gulangyu Municipal Council is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Fujian Province.

The Site of the Gulangyu Municipal Council is located on Gulangyu Island in Siming District, Xiamen City, dating back to the Qing Dynasty.

Introduction: In 1902, consuls from thirteen countries including Britain and the United States, along with the Qing government, signed the "Gulangyu Public Concession Regulations," which stipulated the establishment of a "Municipal Council" within the Gulangyu Public Concession to implement the decisions of the "Consular Corps." In January 1903, the Municipal Council was established and rented an English-style building located at No. 40 Guxin Road, Hejiqi. This building was built around 1880, facing southeast and situated northwest, as a single-story English structure with a semi-underground damp-proof layer and surrounded by a courtyard. The building has since been demolished, leaving only the foundation ruins, measuring 80 meters in length and 50 meters in width, with a section of the remaining wall still visible on the ground.

Protected area: Extending east and south to Sanming Road, west to Guxin Road, and north to 20 meters outside the building ruins.

In 2018, the Site of the Gulangyu Municipal Council was designated as part of the ninth batch of provincial-level cultural heritage sites by the People's Government of Fujian Province.
