Gulangyu Christian Cemetery

The Gulangyu Christian Cemetery is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Fujian Province.

The Gulangyu Christian Cemetery is located on Gulangyu Island in Siming District, Xiamen, dating back to the Qing Dynasty and the Republican era.

Description: Located on the small hillsides to the south and north outside the perimeter wall of Anlan Hall, it is mainly divided into two sections—southern and northern burial grounds. The southern burial ground lies on a gentle slope facing south between the eastern gate of Anlan Hall and the north side of No. 5 Jishan Road, where approximately 200 tombs are distributed. The northern burial ground is situated on a small hillside facing north outside the eastern wall of Anlan Hall, where around 200 tombs are located. In addition, there are dozens of tombs scattered in the surrounding area. The individuals buried here were predominantly Christians, including Chinese pastors and foreign missionaries, with tombstones dating from the 18th to the 20th century.

Protected area: Extends to the boundaries of surrounding buildings to the east, south, and north, and to the perimeter wall of Anlan Hall and Jishan Road to the west.

In 2018, the Gulangyu Christian Cemetery was designated as part of the ninth batch of provincial-level cultural heritage sites by the People’s Government of Fujian Province.
