Gulangyu Hongning Hospital

Gulangyu Hongning Hospital is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Fujian Province.

Gulangyu Hongning Hospital is located on Gulangyu Island in Siming District, Xiamen. It dates back to the Republican era.

Description: Built in the 1920s, the private Gulangyu Hospital relocated here in 1933. At that time, it had both inpatient and outpatient services. The complex consists of two buildings. One of them, at No. 44 Guxin Road, was constructed along a sloping terrain and is a three-story Western-style red-brick structure, facing southwest. The western side of the building has an additional single-story two-room annex. The building sits on a granite base about 1–2 meters high. The central front facade features a slightly protruding small balcony, flanked by small corridors enclosed by railings, which were modified and enclosed in earlier years. The ground is paved with square red bricks. No. 46 Guxin Road, adjacent to the red-brick building at No. 44 and situated closer to the inner side within the same courtyard, is a two-story light yellow Western-style building, facing south and built on a rectangular plan, with a slightly protruding room on the west side. The front sections of the first and second floors feature arched corridor structures, which were later modified and enclosed. The floor is paved with hexagonal glazed ceramic tiles, and the hipped roof is covered with cement flat tiles.

Protected area: An extension of 20 meters outward from all sides of the building.

In 2018, Gulangyu Hongning Hospital was designated as part of the ninth batch of provincial-level cultural heritage sites by the People’s Government of Fujian Province.
