Gulangyu Yanping Theater

The Gulangyu Yanping Theater is a cultural relic protection unit of Fujian Province.

The Gulangyu Yanping Theater is located on Gulangyu Island in Siming District, Xiamen, dating back to the Republican Era.

Introduction: In 1927, overseas Chinese brothers Wang Ziru and Wang Qihua from Myanmar built a modern and advanced "Gulangyu Market" in the style of Singapore along Haitan Road. In 1928, they constructed a cinema on the upper floor of the market, naming it the “Yanping Theater.” The theater features a double-sloped roof, with a rectangular main hall that has slightly arched extensions along both side walls at the front, measuring approximately 35 meters in length from east to west, 15 meters in width from north to south, and about 10 meters in height. The triangular gables on both sides retain ventilation windows. The theater accommodates 600 seats on the ground floor and balcony. The screen and stage are located on the eastern side of the hall, while the projection room is situated within the rear western wall, housing the film projector which projects images through an opening in the upper part of the back wall. An exit door is located downstairs at the southern end via a staircase.

Protected area: 20 meters beyond the exterior walls on the east and south, bounded by Market Road to the west, and Haitan Road to the north.

In 2018, the Gulangyu Yanping Theater was designated as part of the ninth batch of provincial-level cultural relic protection units by the People's Government of Fujian Province.
