Green Island Lighthouse

Green Island Lighthouse is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Fujian Province.

Green Island Lighthouse is located on Green Island in Lujiang Subdistrict, Siming District, Xiamen City, dating back to 1875.

Description: Built in 1875 (the first year of the Guangxu reign in the Qing Dynasty) by the Xiamen Customs Taxation Department. The lighthouse has an octagonal plan, with each side measuring 1.35 meters and a height of 10 meters, constructed from brick and stone. Above the stone lintel is engraved “1875D.M.HEDERSON ENCINEER”. The interior is made of brick, with a spiral stone staircase leading to the top. This lighthouse is one of the oldest surviving lighthouses along China’s southeastern coast and remains in use today.

In 2013, Green Island Lighthouse was designated as part of the eighth batch of provincial-level cultural heritage sites by the People's Government of Fujian Province.
