The Stone Inscription Commemorating Zhu Yifeng’s Campaign Against the Dutch Invaders is a cultural relic protection unit of Fujian Province.

The Stone Inscription Commemorating Zhu Yifeng’s Campaign Against the Dutch Invaders is located on the rock face of the back hill of Huxi Rock in Siming District. It is a provincial-level cultural relic protection unit dating back to the Ming Dynasty.

Located at Huxi Rock in Xiamen City. Carved in the third year of the Tianqi era (1623), the inscription is 1.3 meters high and 0.6 meters wide, featuring four vertical lines of regular script totaling 21 characters, each measuring 17 cm in height and 13 cm in width. The text reads: “On the 20th day of the 11th month of the Tianqi Year of Guihai, Zhu Yifeng of Guangling arrived to lead troops against the foreign invaders.” In November of the third year of the Tianqi era, Dutch colonists once again invaded areas around Xiamen such as Zengcuo’an and Gulangyu. The military and civilians of Xiamen fought fiercely and annihilated the invading enemies. Zhu Yifeng, Provincial Administration Commissioner of Funing, had this stone inscription carved to commemorate the event. This is a valuable historical record for the study of Ming Dynasty coastal defense and anti-invasion struggles. In 1985, the People’s Government of Fujian Province designated it as part of the second batch of provincial-level cultural relic protection units.

Zhu Yifeng (birth and death years unknown), styled Fei’er, was a native of Taixing. He was an official of the Ming Dynasty. In the 26th year of the Wanli era (1598) during the reign of Emperor Shenzong, he passed the imperial examination and was appointed as the Prefect of Xinyang in Henan. He presided over trials with clarity and efficiency, and reduced redundant expenses and corvée labor, benefiting the populace. Later, he entered the capital and served as a Langzhong (senior official) in the Ministry of Justice before transferring to the Ministry of War. He oversaw the Shaanxi provincial imperial examination and served as the Langzhong of the Military Selection Office, where he established regulations that revitalized confidential state affairs. He was later promoted to Provincial Administration Commissioner of Fujian. At the time, the Dutch occupied Penghu Island and frequently harassed the area.
