Xiamen Seawall Monument
The Xiamen Seawall Monument is a municipal cultural heritage site protected by Xiamen City.
The Xiamen Seawall was constructed in June 1953 and completed in September 1955, stretching a total length of 2,212 meters. It is China’s first cross-sea seawall built with granite. The completion of the seawall transformed Xiamen Island from an isolated island into a peninsula, greatly boosting the city’s economic development and social progress. In the autumn of 1960, when Chairman Zhu De visited Xiamen, he inscribed the four large characters “移山填海” (Moving Mountains and Filling the Sea) for the Seawall Monument.
It was designated as part of the fifth batch of municipal-level cultural heritage sites in November 2004.
Protected area: The Xiamen Seawall Monument and the Seawall Viewing Pavilion are protected as a whole. To the north up to the edge of the coastal bank, to the southeast up to the edge of Gaoqi Village, and to the southwest up to the edge of Provincial Highway 206.

Dianqian Subdistrict holds a strategically important geographic location as a key transportation hub for entering and exiting Xiamen Island. It is served by the Xiamen Bridge, Jimei Bridge, and Xinglin Bridge for island access, as well as Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport and Xiangyu Port, which connect both domestically and internationally. It is often referred to as the “Gateway to the Egret Island.”
