The former residence of Wu Bida is a cultural relics protection unit in Tong’an District.

The former residence of Wu Bida is located at No. 175, Xibian Street, Datong Subdistrict, Tong’an District. It is a district-level cultural relics protection unit dating back to the Qing Dynasty.

Protected area: 12 meters in front of the residence, and 8 meters behind the back wall and on both sides.

Wu Bida, styled Tongqing and also known as Biya, was a native of Xibian in Tong’an’s Zhaifangli. He became a martial arts jinshi (successful candidate in the highest imperial examinations) in the eighth year of the Yongzheng reign (1730) and was assigned to Guangdong as a reserve officer. In the seventh year of the Qianlong reign (1742), he was appointed as the defender of Guanghai Fort in Guangdong. In the eleventh year of Qianlong (1746), he was appointed as the commander of Qiongzhou. In the fifteenth year of Qianlong (1750), he was appointed as the lieutenant colonel of Guangdong Fort. In the twenty-third year of Qianlong (1758), he was appointed as the lieutenant colonel of Haimen Camp. In the twenty-fourth year of Qianlong (1759), he was promoted to the rank of naval commander of Wenzhou. In the twenty-fifth year of Qianlong (1760), he was summoned to the capital for an imperial audience, awarded the peacock feather decoration, reassigned as the left-wing naval commander of Guangdong, then promoted to the commander-in-chief of land and naval forces of Guangdong Province, and later appointed as the naval commander of Xiamen, also overseeing the land and naval troops of Penghu and Taiwan.
