The Tomb of Huang Wenzhao is a cultural heritage protection unit of Tong’an District.

The Tomb of Huang Wenzhao is located in Huangban Natural Village, Wuxian Town, Tong’an District. It is a district-level cultural heritage protection unit dating back to the Ming Dynasty.

The protected area extends 30 meters outward from the tomb in all directions.

Huang Wenzhao (1556–1651), also known as Maosheng or Jitao, and styled Yuyuan (according to the Huang family genealogy), was originally from Jinbing, Tong’an. He was born at the home of his maternal grandfather Zeng Zhongkui in Anpingli, Jinjiang. He was a renowned Neo-Confucian scholar of southern Fujian during the late Ming and early Qing periods.

Huang Wenzhao came from a scholarly family. His father, Huang Huai, was a student at the Quanzhou Prefectural School in 1548. His elder brother, Huang Wenbing, became a jinshi (imperial examination graduate) in 1577 and eventually served as a provincial administrator in Shaanxi. At the age of three, Huang Wenzhao survived the sacking of the city by Japanese pirates, and at 14, he married the daughter of Chen Xuan, the prefect of Linjiang. Wuxian Town: Located in the northeast corner of Tong’an District, Wuxian Town borders Tingxi and Nan’an to the north, Hongtang to the south, Xinxu of Xiang’an to the east, and the urban area of Datong to the west. The Tongxin Highway runs through the town, providing convenient transportation and a strategic location.

The town covers a total land area of 73.8 square kilometers and governs 15 administrative villages, 95 natural villages, and 172 villager groups, with a population of 34,600.
