Hongyang Ancient House

Hongyang Ancient House is located at No. 46, Haimi West, Caipu Village, Maxiang Town. Built in the early years of the Republic of China, it consists of a front and a rear section, with a central courtyard and side wing rooms (ju tou), a width of 12 meters, a total depth of 18 meters, and an area of approximately 200 square meters. The front section has three bays, with a concave porch and central hall in the middle, side chambers on both sides, a flush-gable roof, and swallowtail ridges. The rear section has three bays spanning 12 meters in width and four bays spanning 9 meters in depth, with a central hall and side chambers, a post-and-lintel beam frame, a flush-gable roof, and swallowtail ridges. This building is a Minnan-style red-brick residence constructed with earth, wood, brick, and stone. It features granite plinths, kui-dragon-patterned “counter feet,” and red-brick wall panels. The most exquisite decorative elements are the painted artwork on both sides of the porch and the extensive use of imported glazed floral tiles in the red-brick façade, giving the building a luxurious and opulent appearance while clearly reflecting the influence of foreign cultures.
