Snow Peak Temple is located in Yangmei Mountain, Kangmei Town, and was first built during the Tang Dynasty. Historical records indicate that it is the place where the eminent Tang Dynasty monk Master Yicun attained enlightenment, making it one of the renowned temples in southern Fujian. With its picturesque and unique mountain scenery, Snow Peak Temple has become an enchanting destination for visitors. The area outside the temple is known for its four beautiful and distinctive scenes and eight delightful charms, offering tranquility and broadening the mind. The “Heart-Cleansing Spring,” “Leisurely Path,” “Banana Slope,” and “Mountain Moon Pavilion” are called the four scenes; while the “Morning Sun through the Window,” “Morning Mist in the Flower Vale,” “Mist-Shrouded Vines,” “Cool Breeze from the North Window,” “Dew on the Mossy Steps,” “Moonlit Mountain Tower,” “Echoing Spring in the Stone Cave,” and “Rain on Banana Trees in the Fragrant Courtyard” are the eight charms. Many poets throughout the dynasties have visited the mountain and temple, leaving behind numerous poems about the four scenes and eight charms. In addition, there are the “Tai Xu Cave,” “Nine Caves Hollow,” and the well-preserved Tang Dynasty “White Horse Tomb.” Stone carvings, pavilions, and pagodas and tombs of monks from various dynasties, each with its own distinctive style, are scattered around the temple and amidst the lush greenery, presenting a splendid sight.

Kangmei Town is located in the central part of Nan’an City, at 118°28′ east longitude and 25°10′ north latitude, covering an area of 66.7 square kilometers. It borders Meishan Town to the north, Honglai Town to the east, Fengzhou Town to the southeast, Meilin Subdistrict to the southwest, Xinxin Town to the west, and Jintao Town to the northwest, and lies within Quanzhou’s “half-hour economic circle.” The southeastern part of Kangmei features mostly hills, while the western part is more mountainous, with higher-altitude mountains including Yangmei Mountain (547 meters above sea level), Bijia Mountain (428 meters), and Tiejianzhai (221 meters).
