Duchess of Cambridge Names New Cruise Ship “Royal Princess”

Princess Cruises announced today (the 9th) that Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge will name its new ship, the Royal Princess. To celebrate the addition of the new vessel to its fleet, a week-long delivery celebration will be held, with the naming ceremony set to take place on June 13 in Southampton, UK, expected to be the highlight of the event.

The Royal Princess is scheduled to arrive in Southampton, UK on Friday, June 7, kicking off a series of celebratory events for guests and travel agency partners, including a welcome dinner on June 12. All activities will culminate perfectly with the ship’s maiden voyage on June 16. The naming ceremony will follow British maritime tradition, featuring a blessing, a performance by the Royal Marines Band, and a display by the Irish Guards pipes and drums.

The Royal Princess is a next-generation cruise ship that can accommodate 3,600 passengers. It features a spacious atrium for social activities, the SeaWalk—a glass-bottomed walkway extending over 28 feet beyond the ship’s edge on the top deck—and luxurious, private poolside cabanas that appear to float on the water. Other highlights include a brand-new Princess Live television studio, the largest onboard patisserie at sea, the Chef’s Table Lumière restaurant where diners are surrounded by a curtain of light for a private dining experience, and private balconies in all outside staterooms.
