Hongmei Lingying Temple

Hongmei Lingying Temple is a cultural relic protection unit of Fujian Province.

Hongmei Lingying Temple is located in Liudu Village, Hongmei Town, Nan’an City, and dates back to the Qing Dynasty.

Description: Originally built in the second year of the Yuan Dynasty's Taiding era (1325), the existing structures are from the Qing Dynasty. The temple faces south and is situated to the north. It consists of the main hall, the eastern wing room, and two rows of western wing rooms, covering a construction area of 1,515 square meters. The main hall is five bays wide and six columns deep, featuring a post-and-lintel beam structure and a flush gable roof. Associated relics: The True Body Pagoda of Master Lingying. Built in the Gregorian year 1933 (the 12th year of the Republic of China’s Guishe year), it is a solid hexagonal six-story stone pagoda, standing 4.2 meters tall. The first level of the pagoda body is inscribed with the words “True Body Pagoda of Master Lingying, the Divine Monk of the Tang Dynasty,” and “Record of the Manifestation of Master Lingying, the Divine Monk of the Tang Dynasty,” both written by Master Hongyi. In 1941, Master Hongyi once resided at this temple, dedicating himself to writing and studying Buddhist scriptures.

In 2013, Hongmei Lingying Temple was announced as part of the eighth batch of provincial-level cultural relic protection units by the People’s Government of Fujian Province.

Liudu Village: Liudu Village is located in the northeastern corner of Hongmei Town. To the east, it faces Hongxi Village across a stream; to the west, it borders the Lingying Temple on Daomao Mountain; to the south, it neighbors Xinlian Village; and to the north, it connects with Renke Village. The Hongliu Cement Road runs north-south through the village, while village roads on the east and west connect to the Hongliu Cement Road, forming a “rice-shaped” transportation network. The village administers 20 villager groups with 1,460 households and a population of 5,143. Established as Liudu during the Yuan Dynasty, it was known as Renxi Township’s Renxi Bao and Mo’nei Bao during the Republican era. After the liberation in 1949, the old name Liudu was retained.
