Former Site of the Longxuyan Meeting of the CPC Xiangyun District Committee
The former site of the Longxuyan Meeting of the CPC Xiangyun District Committee is located on Longxuyan Mountain in Xiangyun Village, Xiangyun Town, Xiangyun District, Nan’an City.
In 1947, as the liberated areas across the country continued to expand, the ruling regime of the - faction faced collapse, the Jiang clique’s dynasty was in crisis, and teetered on the verge of downfall. In a desperate bid to cling to power, Chiang Kai-shek issued directives and launched large-scale arrests of “Communist suspects” nationwide. Under the shadow of the -, our An (xi)–Nan (an)–Tong (an) border region entered a period of darkness before dawn.
In November of the same year, Luo Lin, the Propaganda Minister of the CPC Southern Fujian Regional Committee, was arrested and defected in Nanjing, betraying the leaders of the An–Tong–Tong County Committee and the Taiwan Working Committee. Lin Jinshi, Lin Sitai, and Li Faru were arrested, and the organization suffered severe damage. In December of the same year, the focus of activities of the Border County Committee shifted to Xiangyun, Nan’an. In January 1948, Comrade Liang Xinmin, head of the CPC An–Tong–Tong Border Region Party organization, convened a representative meeting of party members under the CPC Xiangyun District Committee here. The meeting decided to continue developing the party organization, mobilize party members to purchase - for self-defense, and launch a mass movement against the “Three Levies.” District committee members were assigned to different areas to carry out the special task of “white skin, red heart.” They successively established party branches in Anxi, such as the Meiqing Branch in Longmen Town, the Dunban Branch and Yeding Branch in Chengxiang Town; and in the Xiangyun District of Nan’an, such as the Toumei (Zhetou) Branch, Xiangshan (Songshan) Branch, the Xifeng Branch in Yingdu Town, the Xinan (Banpu) Branch, and the Yingdong Party Group. They widely mobilized the masses to engage in the “Anti-Three Levies” campaign, organized party members and the public for armed self-defense, and formed the Xiangyun District Guerrilla Unit. From June to October 1949, the Border Region Military Commission used this site as a base to lead guerrilla forces, resistance levying teams, guerrilla units, and militia forces across the border region in fighting the enemy. They accomplished the mission entrusted by the CPC Quanzhou–Xiamen Provisional Working Committee to establish a stronghold and defend the southern gate of the CPC Anxi Central County Committee. Thus, the Longxuyan Meeting marked a historic turning point.
Currently, a temple has been built at this site, which enjoys perennial incense offerings, though it has not yet been officially designated as a cultural relics protection unit.
