Shishan Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument

The Shishan Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument is a cultural relic protection unit of Nan’an City, a classic red tourism attraction, and a base for patriotic education and national defense education.

The Shishan Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument is located within Shishan Park in Shanyi Village, Shishan Town, Nan’an City.

The Shishan Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument was built by the People’s Government of Nan’an County in September 1965 and renovated in the spring of 2002 by the People’s Government of Shishan Town. The monument is constructed from stone and consists of two main parts: the base and the body. The base is a regular pentagon with columns on each of the five corners and sides that are 2 meters long. The body of the monument is 4.08 meters tall, and the words “Long Live the Fallen Martyrs” are carved in large characters on each of the five flat sides. Beneath the monument lie the remains of 14 revolutionary martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the Second Revolutionary Civil War, the Liberation War, and the early post-liberation campaigns against bandits.

According to records, the named martyrs resting under the monument include Huang Chaolai (from Wufeng, Shishan), Li Jiabin (from Hongqi, Shishan), Chen Chijiu (from Lianshan, Shishan), Ke Lianke (from Neike, Matou), Ye Laoxi (female, from Zhanshi, Jintao), Lü Yunyuan (from Hongxing, Shishan), Lü Zhenggu (from Hongxing, Shishan), Dai Jiangshan (from Tingli, Matou), and Lü Ronghuo (from Hongxing, Shishan)—a total of nine individuals. The other martyrs were from other regions.

In March 1983, the Shishan Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument was designated as a county-level cultural relic protection unit by the People’s Government of Nan’an County. In December 1994, it was recognized as a Nan’an Municipal Patriotic Education Base by the CPC Nan’an Committee and the People’s Government of Nan’an City. In October 2001, it was announced as a Nan’an Municipal National Defense Education Base by the People’s Government of Nan’an City.
