Wang Xialan’s Residence

Wang Xialan’s Residence is a cultural relic protection unit of Nan’an City.

Wang Xialan’s Residence is located at No. 368, Fuchun, Fengzhou Town, Fengzhou, dating back to the Qing Dynasty, and is categorized as an ancient building.

It was built by Wang Xialan in the 23rd year of the Jiaqing reign of the Qing Dynasty (1818). The residence faces north and is situated to the south, featuring two courtyards with five bays and a west wing connected to the main structure, covering a construction area of over 500 square meters. The building is well-preserved, with exquisite brick, stone, and wood carvings. Wang Xialan (1801–1838), styled Pinyuan and also known as Yizhai, was a Qing imperial student honored by the court, a native of Fengzhou, Nan’an. His biography is recorded in the 1915 edition of the Nan’an County Annals. He was known for his philanthropy and sense of justice throughout his life.

On January 21, 2020, the Nan’an Municipal People’s Government announced it as part of the fifth batch of municipal-level cultural relic protection units.

Fengzhou Town: Fengzhou Town is located in the eastern part of Nan’an City, bordering downtown Quanzhou. It covers an area of 56 square kilometers, including 11,500 mu of arable land and 44,700 mu of forested area, with a forest coverage rate of 53.2%. The town is rich in water resources. Its main mineral resource is granite, particularly "Longshi," known for its fine texture and white color, and referred to as "Quanzhou White." Since the third year of the Yong'an era of the Eastern Wu during the Three Kingdoms period (260 AD), when it served as the seat of the first-established Dong’an County in southern Fujian, Fengzhou has a history of over 1,700 years.
