Putian Yunmen Temple

Yunmen Temple in Putian is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Fujian Province.

Yunmen Temple is located on Shuangchi Lane, Yinglong Neighborhood Committee, Zhenhai Subdistrict Office, Licheng District. It was first built in the first year of the Deyou era of the Song Dynasty (1275), expanded in the ninth year of the Yuandade era (1305), renovated in the ninth year (1581) and thirty-sixth year (1608) of the Ming Dynasty's Wanli era, and restored in the twentieth year of the Qing Dynasty's Qianlong era (1755). It was refurbished in 1987. The temple served as one of the strongholds for anti-Qing resistance during the late Ming and early Qing periods in Putian. Monk Quanxiu from Wumen, who resided in the temple under an assumed identity, secretly engaged in anti-Qing activities with locals such as Yu and Huang Dan. The temple faces east and is 30 meters wide and 116 meters deep, covering a total area of 3,480 square meters. It is a two-courtyard corridor-style structure consisting of the mountain gate, the Hall of Heavenly Kings, the worship pavilion, the Mahavira Hall, and two side halls. The main hall features five bays in width and four in depth, with a post-and-lintel and through-tenon wooden frame, and a double-eaved hip-and-gable roof. Inside the hall are over ten Song Dynasty spindle-shaped columns, six Song Dynasty square columns, and inverted-bowl column bases. The worship pavilion retains its original Yuan Dynasty structure. Yunmen Temple was designated as a Fujian Provincial Cultural Heritage Site in 2005.
