Waterloo Church Putian Main Chapel

Waterloo Church Putian Main Chapel is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Fujian Province.

Waterloo Church Putian Main Chapel is located on Cangbian Alley, Fengshan Neighborhood Committee, Ha Subdistrict, Licheng District. It was initiated in 1915 by American believers James Kwock and David Campbell (brothers), and took three years to complete. The church building covers an area of 1,572 square meters and faces south. The surrounding wall is constructed from granite strips, with the plinth built from bluestone slabs. The main gate opening has walls 0.65 meters thick that project outward by 0.15 meters. Some door and window arches, as well as the side and arch stones, protrude 0.03 meters beyond the wall surface. The wooden doors and windows are all Western-style. The eaves feature overhanging edges and upturned corners, with added eave boards. There is no flat top to the eaves; only square Gothic hood molds are intermittently protruded from the upper part of the stone walls around the perimeter. The central section of the hall has three roof trusses spanning large distances, using Howe-type six-panel configurations, while both sides employ two sets each of triangular truss frames. It was one of the four major Christian churches in Southeast Asia at the time. Waterloo Church Putian Main Chapel was designated as a Fujian Provincial Cultural Heritage Site in 1996.
