Former Residence of Chen Guozhu

The former residence of Chen Guozhu is a cultural heritage site under the protection of Licheng District and a classic destination on the red tourism trail.

The former residence of Chen Guozhu is located in Wangxi Natural Village, Xiazha Village, Xitianwei Town, Licheng District, Putian City.

The former residence of Chen Guozhu faces the verdant Jiuhua Mountains and backs onto the ancient Zhuzhu Temple, situated along the historic mountainous post road that once connected Putian to Fuzhou. The residence consists of a main hall, wing rooms, a stone courtyard, and enclosing walls, forming a traditional five-bay folk house with an earth-and-timber structure. Inside, exhibits display the life stories of Chen Guozhu and his elder brother, the revolutionary martyr Chen Guozhen (1902–1949), as well as related revolutionary relics.

In November 2000, the former residence was designated as a cultural heritage site under the protection of Putian County Government. In August 2005, it was recognized as a Putian Municipal Patriotic Education Base by the Putian Municipal Committee of the CPC and the Putian Municipal People’s Government. In June 2010, it became a Putian Municipal Party History Education Base under the Putian Municipal Party History Research Office. In September 2010, it was listed as a Fujian Provincial Party History Education Base by the Fujian Provincial Party History Research Office.

Xiazha Village: Xia Zha Cun

Xiatuzhai Village in Xitianwei Town is nestled at the foot of Jiuhua Mountain, 16 kilometers from the town center. It currently has 17 villager groups, with 418 households and a total population of 1,982, including 63 Party members. The village covers 1,230.2 mu of arable land, 13,372.1 mu of forestland, and 2,013 mu of orchard land. Local attractions include one of the "Twenty-Four Scenic Spots of Putian" — "Jiuhua Layered Greenery", cliff inscriptions on Jiuhua Mountain, the former residence of Chen Guozhu, and the Ku Zhu Temple, among other cultural and touristic sites.
