Former Site of the Establishment of the Minzhong Guerrilla Column

The former site of the establishment of the Minzhong Guerrilla Column is a classic red tourism attraction.

The former site of the establishment of the Minzhong Guerrilla Column is located in Xiting Natural Village, Dongsong Village, Xindu Town, Licheng District, Putian City.

In May 1935, after the CCP Putian County Committee merged into the Minzhong Special Committee, the CCP Putian County Committee was re-established, with its office based in Xiting, Xindu. In July 1936, due to the needs of guerrilla warfare, the county committee office was relocated to the Puyong border area, and Xiting became a key base village for CCP activities in Putian.

On March 20, 1947, Huang Guozhang, Secretary of the Minzhong Regional Committee of the CCP, held a meeting with cadres from some county-level cultural heritage sites in the Minzhong region at the Longjuan Tomb Farm in Yutian, Changle County, to implement the directive from the Min-Zhe-Jiang Regional Committee regarding “vigorously launching guerrilla warfare.” The meeting conveyed the spirit of the “March 16” directive letter from the regional committee. In early April, Huang Guozhang, along with Chen Hengyuan and Lin Runan, discussed the regional committee’s support for launching the Longgao Uprising in Fuqing. After the regional committee’s armed forces joined with those of Fuqing, they decided to first attack Gaoshan. At that time, the Provincial Security Command received an alert from the Fuqing Bureau and urgently redeployed the Fifth Security Regiment, originally scheduled to be sent to northern Fujian to “suppress the Communists,” back to Fuqing, stationing them in Longtian. Seeing the sudden change in the situation, Huang Guozhang and others abandoned the uprising plan and led their forces to Niutouwei on the shore of the Xinghua Bay. However, after being attacked from both sides by the provincial security forces, Huang Guozhang led the guerrilla forces to retreat to nearby Muyu and then withdrew by sea to Putian, arriving at Lu Island in Putian. After resting for two days on Lu Island, Huang Guozhang and his team sailed to Daqian Village in Meizhou Bay, landed there, and then temporarily stayed in Dongkeng Village. They sent people to contact Luo Yingxiang and Yang Qisong, who brought Huang Guozhang and his party to Xiting Village to join forces with the Putian guerrillas. Huang Guozhang believed that the time was ripe to establish the main force of the Minzhong guerrillas. He then convened a meeting with all officers, soldiers, and local cadres in the village, announcing the establishment of the Minzhong Guerrilla Column (also known as the Daiyun Column), and announced the pre-approved leadership list of the column by the regional committee: Huang Guozhang as Commander and Political Commissar, Chen Hengyuan as Deputy Commander, Lin Runan as Deputy Political Commissar, Luo Yingxiang as Chief of Staff, Zheng Chunmin as Head of General Affairs, with three squadrons under its command, totaling more than 100 members. The establishment of the Daiyun Column marked the end of the mobilization phase and the beginning of guerrilla warfare.

The former site of the establishment of the Minzhong Guerrilla Column was originally a large residence of the Zeng family, a nine-room, earthen-wooden structure building facing southeast. Due to division among descendants and renovations, only two-story, five-room earthen-wooden renovated houses remain, arranged in an L-shape, with only single-story double rooms visible from the front. In December 2011, the CCP Putian Municipal Committee Party History Research Office designated it for protected status.
