Ancient Mining Site of the Baofeng Silver Mine

The ancient mining site of the Baofeng Silver Mine is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Fujian Province.

The ancient mining site of the Baofeng Silver Mine is located in Qinxixi Village, Lidian Town, Zhouning County, and Weichengdi Village, Guansi Village, Liyuan Village, and Shangyang Village, Puyuan Town. It dates back to the Song to Ming dynasties.

Introduction: Mining began during the Yuanyou era of the Song Dynasty (1087–1094), covering an area of over 40 square kilometers across five ancient villages in two townships. There are more than 220 surviving mine tunnels at the site, along with over 40 discovered smelting sites, miners' residential remains, two cliff inscriptions, and a stele from the fifth year of the Longqing era inscribed with “Prohibitions Issued by Both Courts Upon Petition.” In addition, there are numerous stone mills used for crushing ore and large amounts of smelting slag. This silver mine site serves as important physical evidence for studying ancient mining technology and the socio-economic development of the region.

Protected Area: Includes the 220 ancient mine tunnels discovered around Shengyinlou Mountain, with a protection zone extending 500 meters around each tunnel. The protection zone also extends 20 meters outward from the outer walls of the former residence of Zhang Pengba in Shangyang Village.

In 2018, the ancient mining site of the Baofeng Silver Mine was designated as part of the ninth batch of provincial-level cultural heritage sites by the People’s Government of Fujian Province.

Lidian Town: Lidian Town is located in the southwest of Zhouning County, about 16 kilometers from the county seat. It borders Qibu to the east, Xiancun Town to the southeast, Limen Township to the southwest, Yangyuan Township of Zhenghe County to the northwest, and Puyuan to the north. The town government is situated in Lidian Village, which lies at the center of Liupuyang, the second-largest plain in Zhouning County. The town covers an area of 89 square kilometers, with 9,279 mu of arable land. It administers 10 administrative villages, 31 natural villages, 3,373 households, and a population of 17,200.
