Ninghua Jigongding

Jigongding is located in Gaofeng Village, Zhiping She Ethnic Township, with an elevation of 1,389.9 meters, making it the highest peak in Ninghua County. It earned the name Jigongding (Rooster Mountain) because its summit resembles a rooster’s comb.

The primeval forests, contiguous bamboo groves, large waterfalls, yew trees, alpine shrubs, and alpine meadows are known as the six major natural landscapes of Jigongding. It has long been famed for its “picturesque mountains and clear waters, pristine springs and verdant forests, cool climate, serene and mysterious scenery, and a world apart.” With its high elevation and unique location, Jigongding remains cool even in the height of summer, with an average summer temperature of 24°C. “Morning feels like spring, afternoon like autumn, and night like early winter,” earning it the poetic praise: “In the sweltering heat of midsummer, people feel near death, yet here the coolness makes one doubt they are still mortal.” It is especially suitable for convalescence and summer retreats. Its natural scenery is shaped by peculiar peaks and rocks, springs and waterfalls, rare flowers and plants, and mountain villages and fields, making it a great destination for leisure and escaping the heat. Jigongding features a variety of uniquely shaped peaks and rocks—some towering and rugged, others exquisitely formed by nature—each exhibiting strange, ingenious, marvelous, and beautiful characteristics. Jigongding is a great travel destination in all seasons: in spring, orioles fly among sprouting grass, and delicate orchids perfume the air; in summer, clouds and mist envelop the peaks, bringing a refreshing coolness; in autumn, the mountains glow with red leaves and the aroma of yew berries fills the air; and in winter, snow blankets the landscape, presenting a world of crystalline purity.
