Ning Residence at the Foot of Nanshan

The Ning Residence at the Foot of Nanshan is a cultural heritage site protected by Fujian Province.

The Ning Residence at the Foot of Nanshan is located in Nanshanxia Village, Shuixi Town, Ninghua County, dating back to the Qing Dynasty.

Description: Built in the 15th year of the Qianlong reign during the Qing Dynasty (1750), it faces north and is laid out in a rectangle. The structure consists of a crescent-shaped pond, a gate tower, front courtyard, lower hall, central courtyard with two wing halls, upper hall, rear courtyard, a terraced area, and three rows of side rooms, with a total floor area of 4,900 square meters. The upper hall features a five-bay width and seven-purlin depth, utilizing a hybrid timber frame of raised beams and through-tenon construction, topped with a double-sloped roof enclosed by firewalls.

Protected Area: To the northeast extends to the small stream in front of the residence, to the southeast reaches the northeastern slope of Nanshan Mountain, to the southwest goes up to the mountaintop of Nanshan, and to the northwest borders the village road.

In 2018, the Ning Residence at the Foot of Nanshan was designated as part of the ninth batch of provincial-level cultural heritage sites by the People’s Government of Fujian Province.

It administers 15 administrative villages and one neighborhood committee, comprising a total of 225 villager groups, with a current population of 28,134. The town has 51,849 mu of arable land and 270,000 mu of mountainous terrain, including 250,000 mu of forested land—of which 6,500 mu is mature bamboo forest. In Shiliao Village stands a renowned cluster of “King Cedar” trees listed in the “World Records,” while Xiafu Village is home to a ginkgo tree planted during the Song Dynasty.
