The Former Sites of the Red Army Long March Departure in Fenghuang Mountain are a Fujian Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit and a classic red tourism destination.

The Former Sites of the Red Army Long March Departure in Fenghuang Mountain are located in Fengshan Village, Shangjie Town, Huaitu Township, Ninghua County, dating back to 1934.

Description: Comprising the Red Army Street (seven ancient dwellings at No. 24–30, 31–33, 23, 34, 39, 3, and 17 in Fengshan Village) and four structures—the Wutong Temple, Wang Residence, Red Army Well, and Red Army Medical Station. From 1931 to 1934, multiple Red Army units including the 12th Red Army and the 4th Division of the 3rd Red Army Corps were stationed in Fenghuang Mountain (now Fengshan Village) and surrounding areas. Many wounded and sick Red Army soldiers received treatment at the Red Army Medical Station. Fenghuang Mountain Red Army Street was initially built during the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, with 59 surviving traditional earthen and wooden structures along both sides of the street. These buildings all feature shops and workshops facing the street, while the road surface is paved with cobblestones and equipped with drainage ditches. In 1929, Comrades Mao Zedong and Zhu De led the 4th Red Army from Jiangxi into Ninghua, passing through Fenghuang Mountain and setting up camp here. In 1934, over 14,000 Red Army soldiers, including the 4th Division of the Central Red 3rd Army Corps and other units stationed in Ninghua, assembled here on standby before embarking on the 25,000-li Long March in early October.

Protection boundary: Each individual structure is surrounded by a buffer zone extending 20 meters outward.

In 2018, the Former Sites of the Red Army Long March Departure in Fenghuang Mountain were designated as part of the ninth batch of Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Units by the Fujian Provincial People’s Government.

Huaitu Town: A township under the jurisdiction of Ninghua County. Established as the Huaitu Commune in 1958, merged into the Hekou Commune in 1959, re-established as the Huaitu Commune in 1966, and restructured as a township in 1984. Located in the southwestern part of the county, about 20 kilometers from the county seat, it covers an area of 106 square kilometers with a population of 33,000. It administers 20 village committees: Huaiyang, Tianbei, Hangu, Wubei, Hekeng, Qingping, Aimen, Zhoukeng, Sunkeng, Shuidong, Chiling, Fengshan, Tuanjie, Qiaotou, Dawang, Lishu, Shibian, Zhuyuan, Wuxing, and Yuexia.
