Shuixi Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument and the Site of the "Qiushan Massacre"
The Shuixi Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument and the Site of the "Qiushan Massacre" is a classic red tourism attraction.
The Shuixi Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument and the Site of the "Qiushan Massacre" are located in Nan’apeng, Qiushan Village, Shuixi Township, Ninghua County.
In December 1934, the Soviet areas of Ninghua, Quanshang, and Pengpai successively fell. The Nationalist reactionary forces carried out bloody suppression in the Soviet areas, colluding with landlords, local despots, and militia bandits to brutally suppress the people of the Soviet regions and indiscriminately arrest and kill Red Army soldiers, Soviet cadres, and revolutionary civilians. Thousands of Red Army soldiers, Soviet cadres, and civilians were brutally slaughtered under the enemy’s knives.
In December 1934, over a hundred wounded Red Army soldiers and medical personnel from the rear hospital in Shixia Township (now Shixia Village, Hucun Town), Wufang District, Quanshang County, were relocated to Qiushan Township (now Qiushan Village, Shuixi Township), DianShang District, Quanshang County. Local reactionary militia and bandits stabbed and buried all the unarmed and defenseless wounded soldiers and medical staff alive in Nan’apeng, creating the horrifying "Qiushan Massacre."
To commemorate the revolutionary martyrs, inherit the revolutionary history, and promote revolutionary traditions, Qiushan Brigade built the Qiushan Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument in August 1966, 20 meters north of the original site of the Qiushan Massacre in Nan’apeng. It has since become an important place for local people to mourn the revolutionary heroes and receive patriotic education.
The Shuixi Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument faces south and is constructed from four slab stones, with an outer layer of cement. It covers an area of 43 square meters. The structure consists of a two-tiered square base, a two-tiered circular base, and the main body of the monument. A five-pointed star tops the monument. The northern face is inscribed in red-painted characters with the words “Eternal Glory to the Revolutionary Martyrs,” while the southern face reads “Salute to the Revolutionary Martyrs.” Due to natural erosion and years of neglect, the inscriptions have faded and become illegible, the surrounding brick fence has collapsed, parts of the base’s cement surface have peeled off, and the overall structure is in fair condition.
