Former Site of the Anyuan District Committee of the Pengpai County Committee of the CPC and the Anyuan District Soviet Government

The Zhanggong Temple, former site of the Anyuan District Committee of the Pengpai County Committee of the CPC and the Anyuan District Soviet Government, is located in Anyuan Village, slightly northeast of the town center of Anyuan Township, Ninghua County.

In July 1933, after the Red Army’s Eastern Expeditionary Force won the Battle of Quanshang Fort in its Fujian campaign, it liberated the northeastern part of Ninghua. To strengthen the unified leadership of the Party over the new area, the 46th meeting of the Provisional Central Government of the Chinese Soviet Republic decided in July 1933 to establish Pengpai County. In August of that year, Anyuan District was set up, comprising six townships: Anyuan, Likeng, Yanqian, Zhangfang, Houxi, and Wujiapu. The Anyuan District Committee of the CPC and the Anyuan District Soviet Government were also established, with Lin Guanyinmei and Xie Musheng serving successively as chairpersons of the District Soviet Government (the name of the District Committee Secretary is unknown). Departments including Internal Affairs, Finance, Food Supply, Land, Labor, Education, Military Affairs, Judiciary, Workers’ and Peasants’ Inspection, and Poor Peasants’ League were set up, operating out of the Zhanggong Temple in Anyuan.

After the establishment of the Anyuan District Committee of the CPC and the Anyuan District Soviet Government, a vigorous land revolution movement was launched. They mobilized the masses to overthrow local tyrants, redistribute land, develop the economy, join the army, fight in battles, and support the front lines, making significant contributions to the expansion and consolidation of the Pengpai Soviet Area. In May 1934, Anyuan District was placed under the jurisdiction of the Soviet Government of Fujian–Jiangxi Province by the Soviet Government of Fujian Province. In December 1934, the Pengpai Soviet Area fell.

The Zhanggong Temple, former site of the Anyuan District Committee of the Pengpai County Committee of the CPC and the Anyuan District Soviet Government, faces south and covers an area of 440 square meters. It is a Qing Dynasty-era Hakka temple, featuring a one-courtyard, two-hall brick-and-wood structure, with the overall building well preserved.
