The former sites of the General Headquarters, General Front Committee, and General Political Department of the First Red Army Corps are located in Shangpai, Paixia Village, Huangpi Town, Ningdu County. In December 1930, the Nationalist army of approximately 100,000 troops, led by Commander-in-Chief Lu Diping and Frontline Commander Zhang Huizan, adopted the strategy of “advancing abreast and pursuing relentlessly” (also known as “converging attacks”) to launch the first “encirclement and suppression” campaign against the First Red Army Corps.

The First Red Army Corps adopted the strategic principle of “luring the enemy deep into the red base area and annihilating them once they are fatigued.” After analyzing the enemy and friendly forces’ situations, it was decided to concentrate the Red Army forces in the central part of the base area, around Ningdu’s Huangpi and Xiaobu areas, to launch an attack on the enemy. From December 1 to 24, 1930, the General Headquarters of the First Red Army Corps and Comrade [Mao Zedong] stayed and resided here, where they studied and formulated the operational plan for the first counter-“encirclement and suppression” campaign against the First Red Army Corps. The original site was known as the “Yousheng Pavilion,” a two-story brick-and-wood structure with five bays on each floor, covering an area of over 400 square meters.
