The Site of the Soviet Government of Jianning County is a classic red tourism attraction.

The Site of the Soviet Government of Jianning County is located within the former Jianning County Materials Bureau (Head Office) compound at No. 13 Minzhu Street, Fuxing Community, Suixi Town, Jianning County.

In the summer of 1931, after the First Front Red Army captured Jianning County and won the Second Counter-Encirclement Campaign, it assisted in establishing the People’s Revolutionary Committee of Jianning County and five central district Soviet governments in Chengshi, Qucun, Lixin, Guiyang, and Huangnibu. In mid-October 1932, the First Front Red Army launched the Jian-Li-Tai Campaign, recaptured Jianning County, and liberated the entire territory. In late October, Jianning County held its first Soviet Congress, electing the County Soviet Executive Committee and its Presidium, thus establishing the County Soviet Government. The government offices were located at the Chengbei Pawnshop on the northwest side of the T-junction where South Street Lane meets Xiongjialing in the county town. After its establishment, under the leadership of the Party and with the support of the Red Army, the County Soviet Government diligently implemented the Party’s various policies and tasks during the Agrarian Revolutionary period: it swiftly established and improved the Soviet governance system across the county, setting up Soviet governments in 10 districts, 72 townships, and 204 villages; it carried out land reform and class verification campaigns. By April 1933, land distribution was completed, confiscating over 600,000 yuan in assets from landlords, local tyrants, warlords, and bureaucrats. Over 95% of farmers in the county received land, effectively eliminating feudal exploitation and oppression in rural areas, and various undertakings in the Soviet area saw rapid development. From January to May 1934, during the Fifth Counter-Encirclement Campaign and the defense of Jianning, the Red 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 9th Armies were stationed and fought in Jianning, with heavy support duties. The County Soviet Government mobilized and organized the people of the Soviet area to join the revolutionary war: gathering and transporting military supplies such as rations, boosting morale among soldiers, treating and nursing the wounded, conducting underground activities, implementing scorched-earth tactics against the enemy, and setting up roadblocks, all of which strongly supported the Red Army’s operations and delayed the enemy’s advance. In May 1934, after the fall of Jianning County, the Jianning County Committee of the CPC and the County Soviet Government withdrew from the county town and moved to the northwestern districts of Huangnibu and Kefang to continue guerrilla resistance.

The Site of the Soviet Government of Jianning County was originally situated on the northwest side of the T-junction where South Street Lane met Xiongjialing in the old county town. It was formerly a residential and commercial building that also functioned as a pawnshop, commonly referred to locally as the Chengbei Pawnshop. During the urban redevelopment in the 1980s, it was demolished to make way for the office buildings, retail shops, and staff dormitories of the Jianning County Materials Bureau (Head Office).
