Qilin Mountain Park

Qilin Mountain Park is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

Qilin Mountain Park is located in the eastern part of Sanming city proper and was established in October 1980. Originally named Niulong Mountain, Qilin Mountain stands at an elevation of 262 meters. It was renamed after the discovery of a stone tablet depicting Confucius playing with a qilin on an ancient tomb halfway up the mountain. The park covers an area of 40 hectares and includes tourist attractions and facilities such as the Qilin Pavilion, cable car, Dragon Play with Water, Garden within a Garden, Suzhou-style pavilions, Qilin Academy, and Secluded Winding Path.

Built along the mountainside are also the Haoran Pavilion, Juyun Pavilion, Sanyuan Pavilion, Lotus Pavilion, Flying Stone Pavilion, and pavilion corridors, featuring various shapes such as three-pointed, hexagonal, and square, arranged at different heights. The Qilin Pavilion, constructed at the highest point of the mountain, stands 24.5 meters tall and 12 meters wide, with an octagonal six-story structure made of reinforced concrete. Climbing to the top of the pavilion offers panoramic views of the surrounding scenery.

To the north of the mountain lies an artificial lake covering approximately 3 acres. On the east side of the lake stands the Yinghe Pavilion, topped with a solitary crane; near the lakeshore is the Linji Bridge, and a five-arch bridge spans the lake. An electric dragon boat is available on the lake for visitors to enjoy a ride around the water. The park also provides service facilities including a restaurant, teahouse, photography studio, and arts and crafts exhibition hall. The cable car leading to the mountain top is among the earliest chairlift-type aerial ropeways put into operation in China’s tourist scenic areas. It was built in January 1983, with a length of 625.34 meters, an elevation difference of 92.75 meters, a speed of 1 meter per second, and 41 chairs that can accommodate 82 people. A mountain-looping road also leads directly to the summit.
