Yurt-style Tomb

The yurt-style tomb in Wanshouyan was built in the 11th year of the Zhiyuan era during the Yuan Dynasty, and it is the only one of its kind in Fujian Province. This ancient yurt-shaped tomb symbolizes national unity and reflects the fusion of diverse cultures and the blending of Mongolian and Han traditions. The Mongolian people hold several grand sacrificial ceremonies each year to honor this great khan who made outstanding contributions to the history of Mongolian unification.

The most solemn of these is the "Sulde" ceremony held annually on the 17th day of the third lunar month. "Sulde," meaning "spear" in Mongolian, symbolizes Genghis Khan’s exceptional military prowess and glorious achievements. Legend has it that once, when Genghis Khan was defeated in battle at the Tula River, he knelt and prayed to the gods for help. Suddenly, a large, black Sulde spear flew down from the sky. Overjoyed, he reached out to grab it, but the spear hovered in mid-air. He quickly vowed to offer a thousand sheep in sacrifice, and only then did the Sulde descend. Since then, the Mongolian people have maintained the tradition of worshiping the "Sulde."
