Dayou Mountain is located 15 kilometers northwest of Meilie District in Sanming City, covering an area of 12 square kilometers. Its main peak, Dayou Mountain, stands at an elevation of 1,276.3 meters. The scenic area features typical volcanic rock landforms, characterized by terrestrial volcanic clastic sedimentation and eruptive structures. It presents a landscape of solitary peaks piercing the clouds and towering above surrounding summits, as well as sculpted features such as cascading waterfalls, serene gorges with steep cliffs, and picturesque, spirit-like rocks. The area enjoys a pleasant climate with distinct vertical differentiation—intense summer heat, severe winter cold, mild springs, and crisp autumns, offering scenic beauty in all four seasons. As a sacred and blessed mountain with a long history, it boasts enchanting scenery and captivating legends.

Both the Ming Dynasty’s *Comprehensive Gazetteer of Eight Provinces* and the Qing Dynasty’s *Shaxian County Annals*, along with the Republican-era *Gazetteer of Fujian*, contain extensive descriptions of the splendid sights of Dayou Mountain. Sites such as Yanzuo Peak, Juxing Stone, Wangyou Stone, Jiangmo Stone, Tianwei Stone, Cangyun Valley, and Guiyun Cave are all recorded. Locals have long regarded Dayou Mountain as an auspicious sacred site. The mountain is home to Puzhao Temple, which enjoys a thriving flow of incense. Since the Song Dynasty, literati and poets have visited Dayou Mountain to compose poetry and prose. Luo Ji, a Song Dynasty imperial examination graduate and Minister of War, once wrote poems praising it. Every fifteenth day of the lunar month at dawn, one can witness the rare celestial phenomenon of the sun and moon shining side by side from the mountain’s summit—a symbolic sight known as “Sun and Moon Shining Together,” representing the spirit of Sanming.
