Location: Yanqian Village, Yanqian Town, Sanyuan District, Sanming City

Introduction: This is the joint burial tomb of Wang Jiusan and his wife, Lady Chen, covering an area of nearly 20,000 square meters. The tomb complex consists of the grave facade, surrounding walls, Tianchi (a flat area above the tomb chamber), a hundred-step ramp, the offering hall, a large open area below the hall, the spirit way, a wooden memorial archway, a plaza in front of the archway, a crescent-shaped pool, as well as ceremonial pathways and a drainage system. The tomb follows the architectural style of the Song Dynasty, constructed with multiple layers of brick, and features a hundred stone steps leading up to the grave mound, hence the common name “Hundred-Step Tomb.”

Wang Jiusan (1228–1299) was the founding ancestor of the Wang clans in Mingxi, Xinkou, Jingdong, Jingxi, and Yanqian. His descendants are spread across Sanming, Zhangzhou, Guangdong, and Taiwan. He was a descendant of Wang Shenzhi, recognized for his filial piety and virtue, later appointed as a literary official and serving as the Magistrate of Liancheng County.

Protected Area: The area within the ridgeline watershed of the mountain surrounding the tomb, covering 40,000 square meters.

In 2009, the Yanqian Hundred-Step Tomb was designated as part of the seventh batch of Provincial Cultural Heritage Sites by the People’s Government of Fujian Province.

Yanqian Town: A town under the jurisdiction of Sanyuan District, Sanming City. Established as the Yanqian Commune in 1958, restructured as a subdistrict in 1984, changed to a township in 1987, and upgraded to a town in 1992. Located in the western part of the city, 32 kilometers from downtown. It covers an area of 330 square kilometers with a population of 20,000. The provincial Jingxie Highway runs through the town. The town administers 12 village committees—Yanqian, Jikou, Wulong, Xiazhai, Xingqiao, Meishan, Fuyuan, Ouhang, Zengfang, Baiyekeng, Zhongshan, Henghang—and the Yangyan Residential Committee.
