Former Site of the Western Frontier Material Procurement Station of the Red Army

The former site of the Western Frontier Material Procurement Station of the Red Army is a cultural heritage conservation unit of Sanming City and a classic red tourism attraction.

The Yu Family Ancestral Hall at the former site of the Western Frontier Material Procurement Station of the Red Army is located in Xijie Village, Xinkou Town, Sanyuan District.

Starting in 1933, under the initiative of the 7th and 9th Independent Regiments of the Fujian Military District, Party members, cadres, and the masses from the Party branch and the Farmers' Association of Xijie Village, Communist Party of China, purchased salt and other supplies sporadically from places such as Datian, Yong'an, and Quanzhou. These were stored in the Yu Family Ancestral Hall. Once a certain quantity was accumulated, they were transported via the Xikou Ferry at Liucheng Village along the route Xijie–Zhuzhou–Louyuan–Zhongshan–Xingqiao–Mingxi to central Soviet areas such as Mingxi, Qingliu, Ninghua, and Ruijin. The Yu Family Ancestral Hall in Xijie Village gradually became the Western Frontier Material Procurement Station of the Red Army. To safeguard the transportation of materials, a Red Guards unit was also established in Xijie to protect important goods and ensure their safe delivery. Up until the time of the Long March of the Red Army, the Western Frontier Material Procurement Station of the Red Army transported large quantities of urgently needed supplies to the central Soviet areas, making positive contributions to the military struggle of the Central Red Army and the construction of the Central Revolutionary Base Area.

The Yu Family Ancestral Hall at the former site of the Western Frontier Material Procurement Station of the Red Army is a Ming Dynasty structure, which remains well-preserved today. The building faces south and covers an area of over 700 square meters, with a construction area of about 500 square meters. It is a wooden post-and-lintel structure with a flush gable roof. The entire ancestral hall consists of surrounding walls, a hanging flower gate, a front courtyard, a lower hall, a patio, an upper hall, and a rear hall. The interior features a full set of carved window lattices.

In March 1991, the former site of the Western Frontier Material Procurement Station of the Red Army was designated as a Cultural Heritage Conservation Unit of Sanming City by the Sanming Municipal People's Government.
